The Des Moines Fencing Club (DMFC) exists to teach and promote the three disciplines of Olympic fencing (epee, foil, and saber) in central Iowa by proving opportunities to participate in a continuum of of fencing programs and activities.
Fencers of all ages may participate recreationally or competitively at the local, state, and national level. DMFC cultivates a passion for fencing through a community that challenges athletes to aspire to their highest level of achievement.
We’re thrilled to share that DMFC has a brand-new home! As of this week, you can find us at:
West Des Moines Christian Church 4501 Mills Civic Parkway West Des Moines, IA 50265
This spacious venue gives us room to expand our footwork, perfect our tempo, and bring even more energy to every bout. And here’s the best part: Coach Jon is bringing out the épée gear and restarting épée practice—so we’re officially a three-weapon club again! Whether you fence foil, sabre, or are eager to try épée for the first time, our new digs are ready to welcome you with open arms (and blades).
Come check out the bigger space, connect and bout with fellow fencers, and join us as we launch this exciting chapter. See you at the piste!

What a great event. The Frostbite has been a staple of the DMFC for many years and always brings out some great competition! Including a surprise win by Red Door Fencing’s Natasha Johnstone, who entered the women’s foil event at the last minute and walked away with the gold!
We love to see fencers of all ages come in and have a good time, and really appreciated all the family’s who brought their young ones. Watching youth Sabre was especially entertaining, and seeing all the support that the athletes had was amazing!
We have uploaded the results of the tournament and they can be found here.
Otherwise, if you want to see some more pictures, you can check out the album on our Facebook page by clicking here.
We definitely want to thank all our volunteers who helped to make this event possible. If you would like to see how you can help the club with future events, we’d love to hear from you!

Last week on November 5th and 6th the Des Moines Fencing Club hosted our fourth annual Jack-O-Lantern Tournament, which was a smashing success (though no pumpkins were actually smashed🎃)!
All the participants did a great job, and a special shoutout goes to our guests from other clubs who came to give us some new tricks and treats.
Then a huge thank you to all of our volunteers who directed, coached, armored, and ran the tables and admin for this very exciting tournament!
